Are You Using Pinterest For your Business? Here’s Why You Should Be.

What is Pinterest?

Pinterest is a visual discovery social media platform that is used by over 450 million active users monthly to find ideas and inspiration. From recipes and home décor inspiration, to fashion style boards and travel ideas, Pinterest is a fierce source of inspiration and discovery.

Unlike its competitors, Pinterest content is served on a feed that is entirely visual. Think of it as a “vision” or “dream” board with cutouts from magazines, media, and articles, but digitized!

Should Businesses Be On Pinterest?

YES! Businesses should be using Pinterest regularly, just as they do with other social platforms like Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. However, when you compare Pinterest to other media platforms there are differences in the way you should post and review performance of your organic and paid content.

For instance, you may see direct engagement on content is typically lower on Pinterest compared to other social platforms. This is due to how users tend to browse through content on Pinterest, looking for new ideas and inspiration. This means impressions are a more important metric to look at than user engagement or clicks.

Pinterest also has a huge leg-up on the competition when it comes to discovery. 77% of users have discovered a new brand or product on Pinterest and 90% of users use Pinterest to make decisions about purchases.

By taking a look at the user demographics of Pinterest, the Pinterest audience is largely female, about 75%, and is spread fairly evenly across age groups. Compared to Instagram, whose female audience makes up 51% of users and people ages 18-34 (stat does not include non-binary genders), Pinterest can be an important tool to use for marketing your business to the demographics who use online shopping platforms regularly- a large percentage being women!

How To Use Pinterest To Grow Your Business or Brand

Pinterest users publish content, called “Pins” in the form of images or video, into content categories called “Boards”. Pinterest Boards can individually be followed by users interested in it’s topic, and will then show on their main Pinterest feed. If pieces of your content are “saved” to their own Pinterest boards, the impressions on that pin will increase to a wider audience.

By setting up your Pinterest business account under a Business Account Profile, you will have access to insights on each individual piece of content you publish, including the amount of impressions, saves, and link clicks. This will help you determine which pieces of content do better than others and what your audience is the most interested in. It can also help you determine which Pins you should promote on Pinterest as a Pinterest Ad for the best success.

After exploring the Pinterest Business Analytics page, you should start by deciding what kind of content you would like to publish and create your Pinterest Boards. Take a look at your current social media feeds and categorize these into common themes. These can be things like recipes, inspiration, or blog post categories but also could incorporate your brands products, messaging, or video! We recommend starting with about 10 Boards and building these as your content grows. Make sure you title your Boards and add SEO-rich keywords to their descriptions so Pinterest users can find you easier!

What Type of Content Should You Post on Pinterest?

Depending on your brand or business, the content you post to Pinterest can be very similar, if not the same, as the content you publish on other social media platforms. Here are some ideas for your businesses content on Pinterest to get started:

1- Visuals that link back to your websites blog

2- Recipes that incorporate your product

3- Aesthetically pleasing product photography with SEO-rich descriptions

4- Repost your Reels or TikTok videos

Pinterest has also begun to roll out Pinterest Stories (called Idea Pins), similar to Instagram stories, which can help drive traffic to your pages. There is not as much competition yet on Pinterest Stories, so share as many as you are able to!

How To Increase Visibility On Pinterest

Some of the most important things to consider when developing your Pinterest growth strategy are: consistency, quality, and patience. Unless your Pinterest page already has a high number of followers, gaining traction on this app can take a while. Here are some #BladeTips to get you started:

1- Keep it Consistent and On-Brand: Pinterest allows schedule building up to two weeks ahead of time. Try to have content roll out on a regular basis and experiment with different posting times. Additionally, make sure the content you post, or choose to re-pin, is relevant to your business message. Try to stay away from spamming your audience with memes or irrelevant content.

2- Utilize Rich Content: There are several categories of content that you can post on Pinterest called Rich Pins. These pins sync information from your website ( either Products, Recipes, or Articles ) and show a bit extra information on the actual Pin. Not every piece of content will fall under this ‘Rich Pin’ ability, but is great to use for blogs your business may have on your website or products you are highlighting.

3- SEO Rich Titles and Descriptions: A great trick for developing titles and descriptions is to use the Pinterest search engine. By searching for your Pins topic, like Dog Food for example, Pinterest will list several keywords that are popularly searched along with that, such as Homemade, Natural, Easy, Best Brands, and so on. Make sure to use as many of these keywords in the description for the best chance at popping up on a potential search.

4- New Features: It’s important with social media to stay on top of the growing trends and changes that come to these applications. Pinterest has started to roll out new features like Video (popular with Tik Tok or Reels content) and Pinterest Stories.
